Company and Position Summary South Central Indiana REMC (SCI REMC) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Fiber Construction, Operations & Maintenance O&M Specialist A. SCI REMC is one of the largest not-for-profit electric distribution and fiber cooperatives in Indiana and a leader in innovative technology. The cooperative focuses on providing safe, reliable, cost‑effective electricity and life‑enhancing solutions to its more than 35,000 electric members and over 12,000 fiber subscribers. SCI provides services to Morgan, Monroe, Owen, Brown, Putnam, Johnson, and Clay counties. In addition to the core businesses of electric and fiber, SCI employs vegetation management personnel to provide exemplary services to support reliability and member satisfaction.
The cooperative is headquartered in Martinsville, Indiana located just 30 minutes south of Indianapolis airport and 20 minutes north of Bloomington Indiana off I‑69. SCI REMC serves over 3,646 miles of energized lines. SCI REMC has 150 highly valued, member‑focused employees.
Key Position’s Responsibilities
Maintaining, operating, and constructing SCI REMC’s outside fiber plant.
Splicing drops and large count cables, troubleshooting, and testing fiber plant utilizing a variety of tools such as an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR).
Training and mentoring other fiber operations and staff team members regarding fiber maintenance, operations, construction, testing and troubleshooting.
Serving as the backup for Lead/supervision and providing leadership for training employees as needed.

Education High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience Minimum of three years of hands‑on, demonstrated working experience with fiber construction, troubleshooting, and maintenance, with five years of experience preferred.
Minimum of three years of hands‑on, demonstrated working experience with the operation and usage of aerial lifts, pole/structure climbing, and lashing device operations, with five years of experience preferred.
Splicing skills with all fiber counts (including mainline) with good troubleshooting abilities and the ability to read fiber documents are required for the top Fiber Construction, O&M Specialist position. Experience with in‑home or business installations is a plus.
Qualifications
Must be able to understand and effectively use the Cooperative’s mapping systems.
Must be able to interact effectively with members and customers in a variety of situations, exercising good judgment and maintaining a positive company image. Must have excellent customer service skills.
Must be proficient in computers.
Must have good organizational and self‑motivational skills.
Must be able to work effectively on a daily basis with a variety of individuals.
Must be able to work well with others and work independently.
Must be regular in work attendance.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Ability to obtain a commercial driver’s license if needed.
