Overview

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for performing maintenance and housekeeping duties in the community and around the community grounds as assigned. Maintains a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents, guests, and team members. Responsibilities

Complete all maintenance tasks as assigned by supervisor. Perform general maintenance duties such as: Fixing wall coverings Fixing floor coverings Repairing furniture and fixtures Performing basic plumbing work Performing minor electrical repairs Repairing appliances Assist with painting and refurbishing projects. Perform minor building and equipment repairs. Conduct routine maintenance on Sunrise vehicles as assigned. Maintain all tools and repair parts. Participate in all fire drills and the community’s disaster preparedness program. Mechanical Systems

Assist with working on heating and air conditioning systems. Assist with work on domestic water systems and pumps. Assist with work on refrigeration systems, motors, fans, electrical systems, and emergency generators. Perform routine preventative maintenance as directed by supervisor and according to safety regulations. Housekeeping

Perform carpet and hard surface floor maintenance. Perform deep cleaning and resident suite “make ready” rooms as assigned. Assist with housekeeping functions as needed. Risk Management and General Safety

Partner with community team to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements and safety policies. Practice safety procedures including PPE, fire extinguishers, SDS, Lockout Tagout, and infection control guidelines. Keep cords, carts, and hazards out of the way; maintain equipment and supplies to prevent waste and accidents. Resident Services

Document pertinent information and actions in the Building Management Platform. Foster positive resident relations and route feedback to the supervisor. Maintain confidentiality of resident information. Assist in driving the community vehicle and/or bus as assigned. Training and Team Contribution

Participate as a team member and work toward team goals. Demonstrate our Team Member Credo in daily interactions. Contribute to engagement programs and attend meetings as directed. Maintain required training compliance as applicable to Sunrise standards. Perform other duties as assigned. Core Competencies

Ability to handle multiple priorities Strong written and verbal communication Organizational and time management skills Good judgment, problem solving and decision-making Experience And Qualifications

One (1) year of maintenance and/or housekeeping experience preferred Technical school education preferred General understanding of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems; knowledge of code compliance Current applicable driver’s license with acceptable driving record Driver Training may be required and/or certifications available per regulations Understanding of OSHA/British Columbia Workers Compensation Act, fire prevention, and life/safety regulations Ability to respond to emergency calls outside scheduled hours Proficiency in computer skills and Sunrise applications If driving Sunrise vehicles, ability to review and sign the Driver job description for safety and regulatory compliance Compensation and Benefits
