Position Summary

The TRIO Student Support Services Success and Engagement Coach will provide individualized guidance, academic support, and skill-building to TRIO SSS participants through one-on-one coaching sessions. The role involves monitoring student progress, connecting them to campus resources, assisting with transfer and financial aid processes, and maintaining accurate records to ensure program compliance and success. Coaches also help with recruitment, program events, and collaboration with faculty and staff to support student development.

Responsibilities Serve as the first point of contact in the TRIO Student Support Services office

Provide clerical assistance to TRIO staff as requested

Establish and maintain a regular meeting schedule with an assigned caseload of students, and provide academic coaching and diagnostic feedback on financial goals, academic skills, professional development, and career planning

Document coaching sessions with students and record documentation in the student data management software system

Assist in the monitoring of TRIO SSS participants’ progress

Ensure students receive appropriate academic, transfer guidance, and financial support services

Assist in the design and implementation of workshops on academic success, professional development, and financial literacy, and transfer assistance

Assist in the recruitment of TRIO-eligible students including serving as a representative of TRIO SSS at collegewide events as assigned by the TRIO Director

Perform other related duties as assigned by the TRIO SSS Director

Qualifications Required

Qualifications: Degree in psychology, sociology, education, or related field. 1-2 years of working with students in an educational setting, preferably as a teacher, academic coach, mentor, or advisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Excellent interpersonal skills, follow-through, and persistence when working with students, faculty and staff, administration, and the community

Ability to prioritize work and perform multiple tasks

Ability to work with diverse staff and populations and a variety of educational personnel and community audiences

General knowledge of college programs, requirements, policies, and procedures

Strong planning, facilitation, and presentation skills

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team

Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks

Ability to assess the needs of educationally disadvantaged students

Ability to design strategies using effective motivational techniques

Maintain confidentiality regarding student information

Plan and coordinate educational outreach activities

Demonstrate understanding, training, sensitivity, and commitment to populations served by the TRIO SSS grant

Proficient with computer applications; thorough understanding of Microsoft Office suite

Preferred Knowledge & Skills Experience working or participating in TRIO Programs

Experience working in Higher Education

Experience coaching/mentoring college students

Bi-lingual candidates (English and Spanish) are a plus
