We are seeking an experienced Materials Manager to work onsite at our plant near Midway airport. As the Materials Manager, you are responsible for leading the Material Handling and Logistics teams to manage the flow of materials from raw material receiving through finished product order fulfillment. Your role will ensure inventory accuracy between the plant warehouse and third-party warehouses, develop effective quality procedures, and comply with safety and regulatory requirements. In managing a team, you will complete performance reviews, demonstrate strong leadership, provide training and develop team members, and hold employees to policy standards and applicable laws. The expectation is to continuously improve operations by leading change within various departments under management or recommending changes to management. The regular working hours are Monday–Friday with arrival time before 8am, and off-hours support may be required. What you will do
Manage the movement of materials including receiving raw goods, transfers between production departments, picking materials for batches, cycle counting inventory, and loading outbound shipments. Communicate with department production supervisors and scheduling (as needed) to review the status of the daily production schedule (batches in process) to understand priorities. Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and material movements to meet production goals. Effectively manage raw materials and flow so production is executed without interruption. Manage the logistics function including the relationship with 3PL partners and carriers and the outbound shipping process. Maintain expertise in DOT and all other related transportation regulatory requirements. Resolve problems regarding transportation, logistics systems and customer issues via Corrective Action Response process. Organize and maintain the warehouse and stock locations and ensure inventory accuracy. Ensure safe working conditions in all warehouse areas by enforcing OSHA regulations and company safety policies. Participate in required meetings for ERP transition. Apply 5S to improve and sustain work area orderliness and cleanliness. Adhere to ISO 9000 quality practices and procedures. Evaluate and document employee performance within applicable deadlines. Recommend and execute employee actions such as resolving conflicts, hiring, discipline, or promotions in conjunction with HR. We are looking for minimum 3 years related experience in a chemical company, minimum 8 years in logistics and/or warehousing; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior lead or management experience is required. DOT certification strongly preferred. We prefer a Bachelor’s degree. Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite, including SharePoint; working knowledge of internet, intranet, data entry and reporting; Word and Excel at an intermediate level is highly desired. An understanding of managing data and flows in an ERP system is required. Embrace continuous improvement and lead by example. Demonstrated planning and organization skills. Detail oriented: capable of carrying out a given task with all necessary details to get the task done well. Ability to manage, train and develop employees; ability to give and receive constructive feedback. Strong collaboration and teaming skills with stakeholders across functions. Ability to multi-task and delegate functions. Working knowledge to be a resource for effective problem-solving in the department. Display creative thinking and deductive reasoning skills. Possess excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills. Travel, on occasion, to 3PL partner warehouses is required. What we offer
