Summary:

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Family Engagement Coordinator works in service to the student by supporting a positive parent/family/guardian relationship to the student and the student’s service team. S/he/they is responsible for creating individualized communication plans, facilitating family engagement programming and events, providing consultative support and training to Guild employees, and providing case management and individual support to parent/families that is in service to the student. An ideal candidate must have strong clinical skills with an emphasis on family support groups, case management and trauma-informed care.

Major Duties/Responsibilities

In collaboration with Guild leadership and utilizing The Guild’s Family Services Framework, continue building the Family Engagement department by assessing needs and determining short-term and long-term goals for the program. Be a The Guild Youth champion for implementing initiatives to meet identified family engagement goals. Develop and monitor individualized parent/guardian Communication Plans for all students utilizing The Guild’s identified tiers of support. Regular review of Communication Plan artifacts to ensure effective communication, foster connection and invite collaboration between families and the program. Regular interaction and active engagement with students on caseload at the school, community or residence. Participate in quarterly Treatment Meetings for all DCF students on caseload and report on Family Action Plan targets when applicable. Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team on DCF Treatment Plans and ensure that DCF maintains up-to-date Family Action Plans. Support parent/guardian collaboration, communication and participation throughout the continuum of care, through individual family avenues (i.e. IEP vision statement and life span changes) Provide Guild staff with training and consultation on effective communication and collaboration with parents/guardians through universal group trainings and targeted team trainings Develop and maintain the Family Resource Room and the Family Visiting Room. Develop and implement an annual schedule for parent/family/guardian events: Educational, support and skill building opportunities for parents and guardians (including DCF partners). Parent/guardian/family interactional events with students Social events – parent to parent, Guild community building Facilitate Parent Advisory Group May be called upon to assist with program support related to mental health needs of the students (i.e. counseling to students, safety and risk assessment, etc). When appropriate help parents access local community services and support.

Essential Job Functions

Demonstrated evidence of mature judgment, good interpersonal skills, a desire to enrich individuals' lives and a willingness to learn. Physical and mental capacity to work in stressful situations and de-escalate individuals who have limited cognition and complex behavioral needs. Must be able to organize, plan, and prioritize activities with specific attention to higher level strategies, while ensuring that details are also effectively addressed Proficiency in written and spoken English is an essential function of the job. Must be able to implement crisis intervention techniques as necessary, including Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (via certification through CPI). Undergo a DEEC background record check

Requirements

Master’s degree in counseling, social work or related field. Licensed or license-pending as LCSW, LICSW, or LMHC in the state of Massachusetts. Training or experience with a population with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, mental health diagnoses and/or social-emotional challenges.
