Overview
Temporary - Program Specialist - MESA Events Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a Short-Term, Non-Continuing Program Specialist - MESA Events for our MESA department. This is a temporary, non-continuing position open until filled. We seek an equity-minded person who is committed to supporting our diverse student population and the District Mission. The MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) Program Specialist will support the academic and professional success of STEM majors at Mendocino College by coordinating and implementing enrichment activities. This includes organizing field trips, conference attendance, webinars, professional development workshops, and fostering industry partnerships. The Specialist will work closely with faculty, staff, and external partners to create a vibrant and supportive STEM learning community.
Responsibilities
Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities and/or programs
Designs and delivers presentations and workshops as required
Serves as a liaison between Mendocino College and appropriate stakeholders
Disseminates information on the program
Coordinates schedules and makes appointments for stakeholders and program resources
Participates in department meetings, provides information and/or reports on relevant issues
Assists, follows up, and supports stakeholders regarding program processes and sourcing other available programs and services
Prepares and maintains a variety of correspondence, reports, documents, and forms; maintains and organizes records and files; keeps all necessary records and submits required paperwork in a timely manner
Operates office equipment including a computer and Microsoft Office software
Attends required meetings and professional development sessions as directed by the manager
Occasionally travels to off-site locations for program needs; some evenings or weekend hours may be required
Performs other duties, as assigned
Qualifications
Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring, including Live Scan background check and TB test completion
At least two years of experience in an administrative/educational environment
Required
Associate’s degree in a STEM field, education, or related discipline
Experience working with college students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or education
Experience in event planning, student programming, or partnership development
Familiarity with MESA or similar academic support programs
Licenses and Certifications Employee must possess a valid Class C driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and have access to a personal vehicle (subject to mileage reimbursement) capable of traveling throughout Lake and Mendocino Counties.
Salary and Benefits This is a Short-Term Non-Continuing (STNC), temporary, hourly position, 30 hours per week, $25.22 per hour. Ed Code 88003 authorizes a governing board to hire STNC employees for less than 75% of a school year, up to 180 days. Benefits: Bronze level plan at the cost of the employee. Paid Time Off: 40 hours of sick leave per fiscal year. Retirement: May be eligible for CalPERS Retirement (contingent on hours worked).
Working Conditions Office environment; subject to interruptions and distractions. Physical demands include sitting, reaching, bending, walking, standing for long periods, and light lifting (up to 25 lbs). Some travel and occasional outdoor exposure for events; some evenings or weekend hours may be required.
