Job Summary Demonstrates knowledge of departmental financial clearance and displays Patient Access leadership skills to lead a wide range of duties in support of departmental efficiencies. Responsibilities include arranging support hospital services requested by patients through referrals, performing thorough analysis of admission discharge transfers (ADT) and revenue cycle reports, driving team performance accountability, leading shift Patient Access operations, and collaborating with department leaders in process and operational excellence.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Greeting customers following Conifer Standards of Care, providing world‑class customer service, completing full patient registration at date of service and adhering to financial & cash control policies and procedures, thoroughly explaining and securing hospital & patient legal forms (e.g., Advance Directives, Conditions of services, Consent for treatment, EMTALA, etc.).

Scanning PHI, creating and filing patient information packets/folders for upcoming hospital services, and, when required, scheduling diagnostic and/or surgical procedures.

Conducting physician office/patient interviews, explaining hospital procedure guidelines and policies, and coordinating with clinical departments on schedule modifications.

Providing full patient financial counseling, education & referrals, employing and completing all patient liability collection escalations through compliant techniques before, during & after date of service, performing hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry in adherence to financial & cash control policies.

Securing medical necessity checks/verification in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, verifying insurance, benefits, coverage & eligibility, completing assigned registration financial clearance work‑list activities, obtaining insurance authorizations for scheduled & unscheduled hospital services, and securing inpatient visit notification to payors.

Performing thorough analysis of ADT and revenue cycle reports, completing departmental operational reports based on team performance accountability, leading shift Patient Access operations, and collaborating with department leaders in process and operational excellence.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Minimum typing skills of 35 wpm.

High level working knowledge of PC software and equipment.

Knowledge of hospital environment function and relationships (preferred).

Advanced customer service skills and experience.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Advanced understanding of third‑party payor requirements and compliance standards (preferred).

High performance in patient liability collection.

Cross‑training across all Patient Access service areas.

Professional negotiation techniques for patient collections.

Strong collaborative relationship building with internal and external clients.

Process improvement identification to enhance patient registration.

Education / Experience

High School Diploma or GED required.

2‑4 year college degree in Business, Accounting, Medical Administration or related area preferred.

2‑4 years experience in medical facility, health insurance, or related area.

3‑5 years experience in Patient Access preferred.

1‑2 years in supervisory or lead role preferred.

Physical Demands

Must be able to sit at computer terminal for extended periods.

Occasionally lift/carry items weighing up to 25 lbs.

Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, and walking.

Occasionally push a wheelchair to assist patients.

Work Environment

Hospital administration.

Work in patient care locations with potential exposure to life‑threatening patient conditions.

Other

Must be available to work hours and days as needed based on departmental/system demands.

Must be available for on‑call scheduling support when required.

Resolve physician office and patient issues; may experience high patient volumes and uncooperative patients.

Compensation

Pay: $22.39‑$33.71 per hour.

Shift differentials of $1.00‑$2.50 per hour may be available depending on shift worked.

Conifer observed holidays receive time and a half.
