Faculty Extension Educator

Introduction This is a full‑time, 11‑month appointment for a non‑tenure‑track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Extension Educator. The successful candidate will develop strong working relationships with producers across the state, collaborate with UConn faculty, state and federal agency personnel, and design interdisciplinary extension programs. The position is off‑campus, county‑based with negotiable office location in the northwest, central, or northeast part of the state.

CAHNR has a Strategic Vision guiding its teaching, research, and extension programs for 2020‑2025. Faculty hired for this role are expected to make significant contributions to one or more of the five strategic priorities:

Ensuring a vibrant agricultural industry and sustainable food supply

Enhancing health and well‑being locally, nationally, and globally

Fostering sustainable landscapes across urban‑rural interfaces

Advancing resilience and adaptation in a changing climate

Dismantling structural racism and fostering racial equity, inclusion, and belonging through anti‑racist policies and practices

Duties and Responsibilities Plan, design, and implement extension programs for agriculture and aquaculture producers statewide. Requirements include travel and the following activities:

Provide education and technical assistance in financial analysis, enterprise analysis, labor management, farm transfers, farmland access, and product marketing.

Conduct programs using workshops, webinars, grower meetings, and in‑person farm visits.

Develop fact sheets, articles, print, and web‑based resources to share current research.

Offer one‑on‑one technical assistance in business management to improve economic opportunity, including urban farming.

Work directly with a diverse range of farm businesses from large operations to small beginning farmers.

Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging by serving under‑represented groups and creating inclusive learning experiences. Provide leadership on state boards, councils, and committees.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in agricultural business management, agricultural economics, or a closely related discipline.

At least two years of experience for Assistant Extension Educator; at least five years for Associate Extension Educator.

Proven communication skills, including writing and presentations.

Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Willingness to work occasional evening and weekend hours.

Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.

Adequate physical stamina and fitness to perform duties.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing peer‑reviewed scholarship, extension reports, or electronic media articles.

Leadership experience within an agricultural context.

Experience with integrated extension programs and the land‑grant university system.

Demonstrated ability to build cohesive partnerships with diverse audiences.

Grantsmanship experience, including securing large, multidisciplinary, multi‑functional grants.

Appointment Terms Full‑time, 11‑month, non‑tenure‑track position commencing Spring 2025. Negotiable location (Torrington or Brooklyn Extension office). Salary commensurate with training and experience. Benefits available at http://www.hr.uconn.edu/benefits/index.html.
