Responsibilities & Qualifications Position Overview

Novelis Oswego has an exciting opportunity for a Process Engineer! The candidate will have the opportunity to work with heat treatment of various alloys for automotive applications. This candidate must have excellent communication skills as well as being able to work effectively with all levels of the organization.

The major challenge of this position is determination and elimination of the causes of quality defects, effective resolution of operational roadblocks, and the facilitation and completion of product and process developments and improvement projects through the cooperation of other employees.

Responsibilities

Development of process control strategy to ensure long-term product and process capability

Determining and eliminating the causes of quality defects, championing problem-solving methodologies like 8Ds, 5 Why’s, cause mapping, etc.

Strategize and execute continuous improvement plans to enhance process and product performance

Resolve process deviations that decrease quality, utilization, and throughput

Facilitate and support business decisions with considerations to their effect on upstream and downstream processes, within and outside manufacturing unit

Support daily operations by troubleshooting upset conditions and proposing problem resolution

Development and implementation of projects ranging in scope from near-immediate needs to long-term strategic initiatives to optimize process

Develop and perform routine audits of procedures and work instructions in EtQ

Responsible for adherence to regulatory requirements and standards certifications as required by the business unit

Supports process team and leader on management reviews, major quality initiatives, and maintaining conformance to QMS and customer requirements

Collaborate with upstream processes, customers, and other sites to share and adopt best practices and benchmark safety protocols

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in materials science engineering, mechanical engineering, or other similar engineering discipline

5+ years of experience in large metals manufacturing environment, preferably aluminum, with relevant metallurgical assignments of increasing complexity and magnitude

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in material science/ metallurgy

Experience with statistical process control analysis software such as Minitab

Familiarity with IATF 16949 standard and experience with internal auditing

The role can be filled at different levels depending on relevant experience of the candidate. Individual pay will vary based on qualifications, experience, and performance. In addition to base salary, this position includes participation in a short-term incentive plan (Annual Incentive Plan - AIP or Plant Performance incentive - PPI). This role’s salary at a TCP Level I starts from $75,000 per year.

Location Profile Novelis Oswego is located in northern Central New York on the shores of Lake Ontario and employs approximately 1200 people. The Oswego plant produces more than one billion pounds of high-quality aluminum sheet each year serving customers in the automotive beverage can and specialty markets.
