Overview Tenure-Track Faculty Position in the College of Engineering

The College of Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park campus, invites applications for openings for tenure track faculty members across all disciplines. Through highly ranked residential and online programming, we prepare current and future generations of students for impactful careers as practicing engineers, managers, researchers, educators, and community leaders. We provide innovative educational experiences and supportive programs designed to foster a more welcoming community. In collaboration with industry, non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, and other academic institutions and partners, our faculty lead research initiatives across all areas of engineering that create jobs, fuel economic growth, inform policy, solve global problems, and positively impact humanity.

Through the College of Engineering Equity Action Plan—a strategic, sustainable iterative process to audit, evaluate, consult evidence, design (or redesign), and implement interventions to foster equity in engineering—we are committed to developing meaningful solutions to this critical challenge and to making significant strides toward a more diverse, inclusive community of belonging for all. Candidates focused on any discipline relevant to Engineering are welcome to apply. We are also interested in candidates with the ability to develop successful research programs in collaboration with Penn State’s institutes, such as the Materials Research Institute, the Institute of Energy and the Environment, the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences, the Social Science Research Institute, and the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences.

Qualifications

Rank Options: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. A Ph.D. in engineering or a closely related field is required by the start of the appointment.

Assistant Professor: demonstrated ability as a teacher or research worker and evidence of growth in scholarly or professional achievement.

Associate Professor: same qualifications as Assistant Professor plus evidence of an established reputation in scholarly or professional achievement.

Professor: same qualifications as Associate Professor plus a substantial record of advanced research and leadership in the field of specialization.

Responsibilities

These positions will be responsible for both research and teaching.

Process and Contacts This search is conducted at the college level and is led by Dr. Shelley Stoffels, Associate Dean for Faculty and Professor of Civil Engineering, and Dr. Enrique Gomez, Interim Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion and Professor of Chemical Engineering. The academic home and rank of the successful candidates will be determined during the hiring process. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with first-round reviews beginning on December 1 and future rounds continuing until positions are filled.
