We are currently looking for a Service Technician to maintain, operate and assist in constructing NOVEC's transmission and distribution system while ensuring reliable and economical electrical service, efficient service restoration and the highest level of customer satisfaction in accordance with safety standards, regulatory compliance and NOVEC policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate has successfully completed a recognized apprenticeship program and has 2+ years as a certified Journeyman Lineman with both underground and overhead experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other related duties may be assigned. An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and effectively. Reasonable accommodation may be available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Maintain system reliability through troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance and service restoration of energized and de-energized overhead and underground facilities.
Perform work assignments in compliance with safety standards set by OSHA, VOSHA and NOVEC policy and procedures.
Perform switching orders on transmission and distribution circuits under emergency or scheduled situations.
Perform field verifications for updating the mapping system and circuit-one line diagrams as required to consistently maintain current information which contributes to a safe work environment in the field. Expedite the repair of streetlights according to Operations guidelines to ensure public safety.
Operate transmission and distribution substation devices during emergency and scheduled switching.
Coordinate with contractors and customers on scheduled appointments for work being done at the customer's address.
Provide field training for apprentice line technicians, system operators, meter technicians and electrical engineers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Successful completion of a certified Line Technician training program is required.
Two years directly related experience in an electric utility construction and maintenance environment as a Line Technician 1st Class, Journeyman level.
Two or more years of experience with both underground and overhead is preferred.
A VDOT Flagging Certificate is required.
A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
Must comply with all applicable Federal and Virginia motor carrier safety regulations.
Must be able and available to work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, and other times outside of standard work hours to assist in service restoration, emergencies that may arise, and necessary business operations.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to independently execute jobs, and complete service restoration, in a safe and timely manner.
Ability to efficiently use time and resources.
Ability to utilize a computer and demonstrate proficient use of Windows and Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel.
Ability to speak clearly and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
Ability to solve problems in a timely manner.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
