Overview Summary:
Waukegan Steel, LLC is an AISC certified structural steel fabricator serving the Chicagoland construction industry. Our team has worked on various projects throughout the city including Soldier Field, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Navy Pier, Willis Tower, Northwestern Welsh-Ryan Arena, Washington/Wabash CTA Platform, Ravinia Festival, and Lincoln Park Zoo.
Responsibilities The primary role of this position includes but it not limited to inspection of structural and miscellaneous steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, including fit up, dimensions, and weld quality. Willing to train for the right candidate.
Essential Duties and Principal Responsibilities
Working with Safety and Quality as top priorities.
Willingness to learn new skills.
Willingness to work as part of a team or independently.
Proficient use of hand measurement tools, including: tape measures, squares, angle finders, go/ no-go gauges, and fillet weld gages.
Basic understanding of welding process including: GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), and FCAW (Flux Cored). • Ability to set up welding machine properly to a specified welding procedure.
Good working knowledge of structural and miscellaneous drawings.
Ability to layout and verify layout by others for various fabrication functions. (i.e. Copes, bevels, holes, pitch, etc.)
Knowledge of weld symbols.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Ability to crouch, bend, and crawl.
Ability to lift 75 pounds, unassisted.
Qualifications Additional Skills (Certifications)
Desired, but Not Required
AWS Certified Welding Inspector.
Working knowledge of visual inspections (VT).
Working knowledge of magnetic particle inspection (MT).
Working knowledge of AISC, AWS, AASHTO, AREMA, and RCSC.
Trouble shooting weld defects and common welding machine issues.
Be able to work with tablets.
Basic computer skills
