Overview
The Traveling General Superintendent- Aviation role at JE Dunn Construction leads on-site project execution for aviation projects with significant complexity. The General Superintendent develops and executes the project plan, oversees all aspects of assigned projects, manages the team, sequences construction activities, and ensures project goals are met, in alignment with JE Dunn’s strategy, vision and values. This role reports to the National Aviation Vertical and requires 100% travel to project sites across the United States. Role Summary
The General Superintendent will oversee all aspects of assigned projects, including safety, quality, schedule, cost, and subcontractor management. Core Responsibilities
Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture and demonstrates commitment to an injury-free environment; investigates incidents and retrains staff as needed. Provides management of subcontractors and organization of the overall job and workflow. Manages and oversees company staff, subcontractors, suppliers and programs such as Safety, Quality and EEO for a small project or a major portion of a larger project. Develops work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work. Coordinates and manages the care, custody and control of the project site. Leads meetings including daily standups and weekly trade meetings; participates in progress and project OAC meetings as appropriate. Creates, manages, changes and implements the project schedule in concert with the Project Manager. Tracks and monitors project budget and costs using the project management system and data from the Project Manager. Communicates key project information to owners, design team, authorities, subcontractors, suppliers and other departments. Follows the project filing and documentation system; updates drawings, logs and inspection notebooks. Records unit cost information for weekly reports and completes daily and tracking reports. Evaluates progress on self-perform work and makes adjustments as needed. Manages material and equipment needs for the project. Supports procurement processes (MOC and DLSC) and approves related activities. Assists in selecting formwork, tools and equipment for self-perform operations. Manages timecard approval to ensure accurate hours and cost codes. Ensures quality compliance through specifications, QA/QC and external resources. Supports project closeouts by supervising pre-punch activities and coordinating with owners, architects and authorities. Contributes to the project pursuit process and methodology. Works with field leadership to plan staffing and project execution; collaborates with project management to identify schedule and cost impacts of changes. Participates in negotiations with owners and architects to reach agreement on project changes. Participates in project review meetings and buy-out meetings with subcontractors and vendors. Understands and applies owner and subcontractor contracts. Identifies and recruits top talent; promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion and adheres to JE Dunn’s non-discrimination policy. Manages the largest, most complex stand-alone and/or multiple complex projects from initial planning to completion. Provides management or oversight to multiple projects and project teams. Provides input and leads strategic initiatives; participates in development of training content and internal subject matter experts. Delivers leadership messages effectively to multiple audiences both internally and externally. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to work accurately, completely and in a timely manner. Strong verbal and written communication skills (Advanced). Ability to conduct effective presentations (Advanced). Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate). Fundamentals of construction management methods and project processes. Ability to build relationships within the project team and with external stakeholders. Proficiency in project management and accounting software (Intermediate). Proficiency in JE Dunn construction technology (Advanced). Proficiency in scheduling software (Intermediate). Ability to apply Lean processes and philosophy (Intermediate). Knowledge of trades and scopes of work (Advanced). Knowledge of self-perform and labor productivity (Advanced). Ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability and generate future work through relationships (Advanced). Knowledge of organizational structure and resources; ability to understand document changes and impact to project schedule. Knowledge of layout, crane flagging and rigging (Advanced). Knowledge of productivity rates and cost management (Intermediate). Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders. Education
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field (Preferred). In lieu of the above, equivalent relevant experience will be considered. Experience
12+ years construction experience. 10+ years field supervision experience. Experience leading Lean principles on projects (Preferred). Working Environment
