Overview
Medical Dispatcher I - Call Taker Per Diem, Variable, Mobile Health, Florham Park Base pay range: $18.50/hr - $27.58/hr Atlantic Health System is seeking a per-diem Medical Dispatcher I (Call Taker) to work for Ambulance as part of the Atlantic Health System. The dispatcher is an integral part of the Emergency Medical Services Department supporting BLS Transport, MAV & Critical Care Operations. The dispatcher is responsible for the intake and processing of all transport requests and scheduling transports and appointments to meet patient and customer needs through superior communication and customer service skills. The dispatcher will utilize multiple phone lines and computer screens, coordinating with Dispatchers, Hospital Liaisons, Clients, Patients, Customer Service Coordinators, Social Workers and Hospital Staff to assure safe operations and the necessary logistical support for the mission. The ideal candidate is safety‑minded, detail oriented, and able to function in a fast-paced environment where solutions are needed promptly.
Responsibilities
Effectively prioritizes channels and assigns emergency and non-emergency medical transport requests to appropriate vehicles and personnel (SCTU, BLS and MAV) to ensure a smooth transition from request to scheduling and through pick up or emergent response
Dispatches vehicles in a timely manner
Makes accurate moment-to-moment decisions regarding scheduling pickups and rearranging the plan to accommodate exceptions and emergencies
Performs ongoing demand analysis of engaged and available vehicles to ensure operational efficiency and customer satisfaction
Balances the needs of the customer and the company when making critical transport decisions
Ensures compliance with state, federal and insurance regulations relating to ambulance transports
Maintains timely and accurate tracking of all vehicles engaged in transports and assigns resources based on location and availability
Conducts status checks on crews for engagement, availability, safety and progress
Uses CAD Dispatch system to review trip requests, schedule transports, and optimize vehicle/resource utilization
Keeps trip requests organized and prioritizes trips for sequencing when emergencies develop
Communicates vital trip assignment and monitoring information to crews in a professional manner
Prepares and distributes reports on progress, issues and statistics for review
Performs data entry and demonstrates the ability to learn new computer programs
Attends communication meetings and education sessions
Performs call taker duties as needed
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Relevant Experience:
Customer service and call center training preferred; Basic Tele‑Communicator (BTC) and NJ EMD preferred
