Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure health and safety standards are met by complying with legislation, company policies and promoting a safe work environment.
Ensure the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with the job.
Maintain high standards in the quality of completed work.
Train new crew members.
Calculate the number of trucks required to haul asphalt from the hot plant based on vehicle capacity, traffic conditions, distance from the work site, and driver productivity.
Tour job sites to assess progress against time schedules, detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment, measure slope and material thickness to verify compliance with contracts, and supervise operations.
Supervise and coordinate crew activities, study production schedules, and estimate work requirements for job completion in compliance with or exceeding the job estimate.
Maintain time and materials records necessary for daily job costing.
Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance.
Directly supervise asphalt paving employees.
Qualifications
3 to 5 years of related asphalt and paving experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
Experience in private/commercial paving; training and experience with M.O.T. preferred.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) in all units of measure.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; proficiency with a keyboard and database software.
Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
Ability to keep time and material records.
Ability to follow verbal and written instruction and communicate effectively.
Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills and attributes.
