Overview
Point of Care Testing Coordinator FT Days role in the laboratory. This front-line position oversees daily operations of waived and non-waived laboratory testing outside the main laboratory, performs POCT tests and related procedures, maintains site equipment and supplies, and ensures compliance with quality management, accreditation, and licensure. It also includes nursing staff training and competency assessments for POCT and performing other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Oversees training of new employees on computer/IT lab systems and develops comprehensive training programs to meet orientation/annual competency requirements.
Trains staff on lab information systems (Sunquest/SmartTerm, Middleware (WAM, Mysis, Instrument Manager, BD Computer), and Epic) and stays current with updates; serves as a resource for IT issue resolution.
Oversees daily operations of waived and non-waived laboratory testing outside the main laboratory; collaborates with nursing personnel, care givers, and medical providers; maintains open dialog with testing location staff to resolve POCT issues.
Monitors operations with attention to detail and uses problem-solving to support quality patient care; works without direct supervision and prioritizes tasks for efficient operations.
Participates in decisions on implementing POCT in new locations, evaluating need, expense, logistics, and customer service advantages of requested tests.
Performs POCT tests and related procedures per site/system-approved protocols; coordinates evaluation of potential POCT systems and performance of appropriate comparative studies; coordinates validation and implementation of new equipment and test methods; coordinates 6-month correlation studies for all appropriate analyzers and analytes; writes new equipment or test method procedures for approval by the system POCT medical directors.
Maintains site equipment, supplies, and monitors service contracts to support laboratory services budget; troubleshoots analyzer concerns and coordinates replacement of defective instruments to minimize impact on patient care; monitors test reagent supply levels and validates acceptability before release for patient testing.
Oversees nursing staff training and competency assessments in all areas of POCT; develops and implements training programs to meet regulatory requirements; monitors staff appropriateness and coordinates vendor trainer support; maintains proficiency testing program for all users and regulatory requirements.
Performs site quality management activities for testing, policies, accreditation and licensure; tracks Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement indicators to ensure compliance; ensures compliance with patient safety and regulatory standards; submits reports and implements corrective action plans as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned and complies with Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor\'s Degree in Medical Technology or related field (required).
Licenses/Certifications: Med Tech ASCP Certification or Med Technologist (AMT) or Med Technologist (AAB) required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
Experience: Minimum 5 years in Point of Care Testing and minimum 1 year supervisory experience (preferred).
Skills: Independent judgment, analytic prioritization, troubleshooting, technical skills.
