Job Description The Radiology Technologist I performs radiographic procedures using ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis, cares for patients, and assists the physician in the administration of radiopaque media in the performance of routine or special procedures. This position administers non-radioactive contrast.

Responsibilities

Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.

Review and evaluate developed x-rays or computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes based on ALAR guidelines.

Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination.

Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure safety and comfort during exams.

Operate or oversee operation of radiologic equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.

Position patient on exam table.

Record, process, and maintain patient data or treatment records.

Place required information in and evaluate images on the Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) for technical quality.

Administer intravenous contrast media as directed.

Use O tanks to ensure proper O patient saturation.

Serve as a resource to and collaborate with staff, patients, physicians, and the organization.

Practice aseptic techniques and good infection control procedures consistent with hospital policy.

Secure and return supplies and maintain orderliness and cleanliness of the work areas between each patient.

Maintain patient records by inputting patient examination information into the Radiology Information System (RIS) and documenting changes made to examination.

Assess quality of radiographs and ensure imaging outcome assessment meets departmental standards. Metrics include collimation, positioning, exposure index, marker placement, artifacts, SID, and film adequacy.

Provide care appropriate to the age, spiritual, and cultural needs of the patient served.

Qualifications

Required Education: Completed two-year degree program in Radiologic Technology.

Required Certifications and Licensures: Registry eligible or certification as a Radiology Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Must be certified within the first thirty days of hire. CPR certification from American Heart Association within six months of hire.

Centra Medical Group & Central Virginia Imaging Radiology Technologists are required to hold and maintain a Virginia State Radiologic Technologist License in addition to ARRT certification.
