$39.33 - $61.57 Pool Position Summary

Please Note: This is a pool (as needed) position. No guarantee of hours. The Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing safe, family-centered patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation plans for the breastfeeding/chest-feeding dyad, as well as for the pumping parent. The role collaborates with the patient, family, significant others, and the health care team and demonstrates specialized knowledge in breastfeeding/chest-feeding and human lactation. The position works within the scope of practice defined by the IBCLC and adheres to policies and guidelines of care. Position Reports To : Practice Manager Responsibilities

Provide lactation assessment, management, education, and instruction to patients. Perform consultations, telephone triage, and prenatal education as appropriate. Offer post-delivery consultative care related to breastfeeding/chestfeeding, family bonding, and planning. Coordinate and manage care for patients, including those with complex needs. Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers; advocate for the patient. Evaluate patient responses to care and initiate independent and/or collaborative changes as appropriate. Provide information about community resources for follow-up care and ongoing support. Document teaching and progress in the medical record. Provide consultation to other disciplines as needed to support nursing care. Evaluate and make recommendations regarding breastfeeding equipment and supplies. Develop and update patient handouts and teaching materials. Provide formal and informal educational experiences for staff and internal employees. Participate in continuing education through seminars, workshops, and conferences. Perform related assignments to promote positive visitor, family, and coworker relations. Teach group prenatal newborn care and lactation classes. Maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification. Other duties as assigned. Demonstrate standards of behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all job performance.

Qualifications

Required Current licensure in the state of Washington (RCW 18.88) or licensure through Multistate Nurse Licensure Compact (SSB 5499). Current CPR certification and recertification every two years. Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet programs. Able to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Two years of recent nursing care experience with breastfeeding families. Experience with program development. Lactation Nurse Consultant should obtain IBCLC credential within two years. Desired BSN Pediatric, newborn, and/or NICU experience. Physical/Sensory Demands
