Overview
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students the opportunity to understand day-to-day operations and gain hands-on clinical experience. The environment is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and their people.
Responsibilities
Work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients.
Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Program details Most externship experiences at Countryside Veterinary Center range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Stipend Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for Countryside Veterinary Center is $1,500. Details on the stipend program are available in the stipend overview.
Qualifications
Eligible students: veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education (all class years encouraged).
Must participate in externship programs within the NVA network.
