Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
Eligible candidates must successfully complete a Physical Abilities Test (PAT) prior to interviewing. The PAT date is scheduled for 10/30/2025.
Starting Salary Starting salary to commence at $69,279 - $78,741 except in extenuating circumstances.
Annual Salary for PIC After assignment to PIC (Paramedic In-Charge) annual salary will increase to $77,279 - $86,741.
General Statement of Job Responds to a variety of emergency incidents.
City Expectations Certain essential city services are required to be maintained in any civil emergency. Depending upon the type of emergency, any and all employees may be activated as essential employees in the event of an emergency.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions:
Performs all the duties of a Firefighter II, as per NFPA 1001 Professional Qualifications.
Performs all the functions of a Paramedic. Follows EMS protocols under the direction of the Medical Director.
Responsible for staying current with modern firefighting methods and techniques.
Drives and operates a ladder truck, fire pumpers, and other equipment.
Conducts periodic fire safety surveys, as required.
Inspects, attends to, and performs preventive maintenance to emergency equipment and stations as required.
Responsibilities Responsible for efficient and safe responses to fire department operations. Responsible in work to assigned Lieutenant/EMT.
Minimum Education and Training High school graduate and successful completion of prescribed training standards. Must have current valid Paramedic license issued by the State of Florida, valid State of Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance/Minimum Standards valid American Heart Association CPR card, and a valid American Heart Association ACLS card. Dual certifications are preferred in Firefighting and Paramedics.

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required Skill Requirements:
Ability to operate apparatus and equipment as required. Must be able to maintain current Florida certification as a Firefighter and a Paramedic. Possess a valid Florida Driver’s license, free of any serious violations.
Requires a working knowledge of the current version of the Microsoft Office Professional software suite including proficiency with Word and Excel. Must have a basic understanding of the current version of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Familiarity with CentralSquare Software applications based on an iSeries system is preferred. Working knowledge of current versions of Internet browsers and Microsoft Outlook is also highly recommended. Ability to learn specific computer applications used in the Department.
Physical Requirements Ability to pass physical examination at any time. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather for prolonged periods of time. Must be capable of functioning in a fast-paced, high-stress environment. Reasonable accommodation will be considered for applicants with physical disabilities.
Working Conditions Works a 50-hour week, but must be available to work all hours in the event of an emergency. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors during all types of weather conditions. Newly hired Paramedics are in probationary status for one year from date of hire.
