Essential duties and Responsibilities

Performs diagnostic radiographic, portable, c-arm and fluoroscopic procedures.

Corroborates patient’s clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available to the radiologist and provider.

Prepares and positions patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.

Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices and accessories to successfully perform procedures.

Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.

Immobilizes patient as required for examination.

Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patient during procedures.

Initiates basic life support when necessary.

Determines radiographic technique and exposure factors.

Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.

Process images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.

Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, submits images and data for physician review and interpretation.

Provides practical instruction for radiography students and other partners.

Observes universal protocol, standard precautions and appropriate patient identifiers.

Applies principles of patient safety during procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.

Utilities appropriate scripting, barriers, and patient identifiers.

Operates mobile Radiologic equipment in operating room, emergency room, or at patient's bedside.

Assists radiologist in fluoroscopic and special x-ray examinations.

Prepares contrast media and assists in administration.

Education and Experience

Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.

Certifications/Licensure

ARRT Radiography registration required.

IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois.

WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin.

Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days.

Special Physical Demands The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Function of the position with or without accommodations. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. The employee must frequently lift and/or move patients using appropriate patient transfer equipment; gait belts, Hoyer lift, hovermat, slider boards, etc. Moving (pushing, pulling) patients in wheelchairs and patient carts. Equipment- moving (pushing and pulling) portable imaging equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
