Overview Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Certified Surgical Tech follows established procedural guides in the preparation of sterile supplies and equipment. Performs appropriate room duties involved with direct patient care and functions autonomously as a member of the operating room team. In collaboration with the surgical team and under the direction of a physician, assumes responsibility for care and safety of patients, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment during the procedure. Maintains integrity, safety, and efficiency of the sterile field.
Responsibilities
Prepare sterile supplies and equipment per procedural guides.
Perform room duties, support patient care, and collaborate with surgical team.
Assume responsibility for patient, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment safety.
Ensure effective communication with circulator, charge nurse, patient, surgeon, anesthesia, and other hospital departments.
Assist in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions.
Perform additional duties as directed by the Nurse Manager.
Qualifications
Certification: Hold and maintain the Certified Surgical Technologist credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (formerly LCC-ST).
Certification: Current CPR card; BLS or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer card required.
Minimum Experience: 2-year associate’s or 4-year bachelor’s with specialized training in surgical processes, anatomy, instrumentation, or equipment through an accredited school of surgical technology or equivalent program. Two years of OR technician experience required.
License/Registration: Certified Surgical Technologist credential required.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, sit, walk continuously; lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted; perform gross motor function; maintain 20/40 vision; maintain hearing acuity; work rotating shifts; work latex safe environment; remain in training etc. (see full list).

Additional Job Description High School Diploma. Graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology or military program. At least two years of work experience as a Certified Surgical Tech required. Completion of all CST III career ladder requirements is required. Current AHA BLS or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
