Purpose The Scientist will advance innovation in the antibacterial medical device development industry. In this role, you will design, execute, and analyze in vitro microbiology studies, delivering data‑driven insights that support innovation in a highly regulated research environment. The position supports Front End Innovation, New Product Development, and Lifecycle Management for J&J MedTech R&D.

Responsibilities

Conduct laboratory research under general supervision using established methodology and aid in development of new methodology.

Analyze and interpret experimental results; summarize findings for presentations and write reports.

Show a strong interest in personal development and growth of advanced theoretical knowledge in the antibacterial medical device field of study.

Contribute to the development of new protocols, test methods, and operating procedures.

Perform basic and applied research in the area of medical device microbiology to answer scientific questions pertaining to biofilm formation and microbial control on medical devices.

Contribute to installation, validation, and qualification of lab equipment as needed to further research capabilities.

Contribute to updating protocols, test methods, and standard operating procedures.

Education and Required Experience

Bachelor of Science in Microbiology or a related biological science with a minimum of 1 year experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or consumer applied microbiology.

Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory experience executing routine lab assays such as MIC, time kill, Zone of Inhibition, bacterial growth promotion.

Hands‑on experience with method/equipment development, optimization, qualification, and validation.

Strong understanding of GxP lab operations.

Excellent communication, verbal, written, and presentation skills.

Experience training and mentoring other personnel on techniques and equipment.

Preferred Skills & Experiences

MS in Microbiology or biological science with 1+ year of microbiology experience in a medical device laboratory setting.

Understanding of Medical Device test method validations and 510K submissions.

Direct experience with implementing and execution of experiments using USP, ISO and/or ASTM methods.

Experience in GxP Medical Device laboratory processes including audit participation and lab equipment validation.

Experience with ISO, USP, and/or ASTM methods.

Experience in internal and external audits.

Experience in developing in vitro biofilm methods.

Other

This position is based in Raritan, NJ and requires up to 10% International/Domestic travel.

Must be able to work on‑site five days a week.

Compensation and Benefits Anticipated base pay range: $88,500 to $119,000. Eligible for an annual performance bonus per company guidelines.
