CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST I (Non-Competitive)

The County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services (DHS) is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist I to perform a variety of standardized clinical laboratory tests within a specialized area or across specialty lines using manual or automated methodology.
Responsibilities:
Calibrates laboratory instruments and performs quality control and improvement procedures to assure the operational accuracy of equipment and test reproducibility. Oversees the work of Laboratory Assistants assigned to assist with testing. Performs specific biochemical tests on body specimens to determine the presence and quantity of metabolic and endocrine substances. Conducts hematological tests such as red blood cell count, reticulocyte, platelet, eosinophil, and leukocyte counts. Cultures, isolates, and identifies enteric pathogens, parasites, tubercle bacilli, pathogenic bacteria, fungi, and other micro-organisms in blood, sputum, urine, feces, exudates, tissues, spinal fluid and similar substances. Requirements:
Clinical Laboratory Scientist license -OR- Limited Clinical Laboratory Scientist Licenses issued by the State of California Department of Public Health in one of the following specialties: chemistry, microbiology, hematology, toxicology, and immunohematology. Applicants must ensure the License and Certification Section of the application is completed and provide the title of the required license, the certificate number, date of issue, date of expiration, and the name of the issuing agency for the required license. Working Conditions:
This class requires light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved. EEO Statement:
