About the Department:
The soil management is a new extension and research program in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at North Carolina State University. The program is located at Vernon G James Center, Tidewater Research Station, Plymouth, NC. The primary focus is soil health, soil organic matter, and saltwater intrusion-related issues. Soil impacts and spatial technologies for major field crops are within the scope of this program. As cropping systems change, new spatial technologies will require applied research and extension to ensure the best soil management and fertilizer recommendations for optimal yields and economic return while safeguarding soil health and soil organic matter. Additionally, saltwater intrusion and storm effects on soil productivity and fertility are and will be an increasingly important part of this position.
Responsibilities Essential Job Duties
Research Technician - Two Openings Available
We are seeking two independent and motivated research technicians to support our extension and research program through field and lab work, as well as contribute to the scientific perspective of our efforts. These positions require individuals with experience in heavy field equipment usage, field work scheduling, and performing small maintenance tasks within the program. Candidates with backgrounds in soil science, agriculture, agronomy, or field crops are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications Minimum Experience/Education:
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Other Required Qualifications:
Ability to work independently and make scientifically informed decisions in field and laboratory settings.
Intent on creating and maintaining a safe work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in heavy field equipment usage, field work scheduling, and performing small maintenance tasks
Welcoming and good communication with other employees, and mentoring and managing student employees for field and lab work.
Backgrounds in soil science, agriculture, agronomy, or field crops
Extension and research experience.
Required License or Certification:
A valid NC Driver's License and the ability to obtain an NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire
A valid Driver's License must be maintained throughout employment
