Summary Under the direction of the Supervisor Laboratory Non-Technical, the Clinical Lab Assistant performs phlebotomy using various venipuncture techniques to collect blood directly from patients of all ages and is familiar with patient and specimen requirements for these tests. The assistant completes a variety of clinical support duties involved in identifying, collecting, receiving and processing all types of clinical specimens for laboratory analysis, including preparation for transport to outside laboratories (when applicable). This role follows all safety, infection control and OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen guidelines.

Hours 11:00 AM – 9:30 PM – Saturdays and Sundays

Education High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Certification, Registration & Licensure None.

Experience Phlebotomy training with a completed externship preferred. Phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting and clinical support experience in specimen processing preferred. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, be able to relate well with clients in a professional and compassionate manner, can multi‑task and work in a fast‑paced environment, and can perform in emergent or crisis situations.

Responsibilities

Obtain and process venous and capillary blood samples required for laboratory analysis from patients of all ages upon request.

Process clinical specimens for delivery to laboratory departments and for pick‑up by reference laboratories (when applicable).

Perform all duties within assigned work blocks.

Demonstrate compliance with corporate, departmental and job‑specific requirements.

Assist in the preventative maintenance and disinfection within the Specimen Processing area.

Concord Site only: Travel to off‑site locations for the purpose of phlebotomy collections.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Light material handling: regular lifting, carrying or pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds; frequent lifting, carrying or pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds.

Required perceptual and fine motor skills, speaking, hearing, bending, repetitive motion, reaching, sitting, walking.

Occasional driving, kneeling, squatting and standing.

Required visual acuity (color vision, depth perception, far vision, near vision, peripheral vision).

Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, airborne pathogens, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, slippery surfaces, toxic or caustic chemicals, variable weather conditions.

Noise level usually moderate.
