Therapeutic Recreation Program Overview Our Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) play a critical role in supporting youth and young adults navigating at‑risk behaviors in an after‑school setting. BHTs provide mentorship, guidance, and care through trauma‑informed approaches and cognitive behavior therapy, utilizing sports and activities as therapeutic tools. The role involves working closely with the clinical team to implement individualized treatment plans and ensure the safety and well‑being of our clients.

We encourage the development of healthy relationships and personal growth through group and individual treatment programs. Our mentors and clinicians work closely with the client's treatment teams, families, and guardians to ensure they receive the most effective services.

Responsibilities

Provide immediate support and intervention to youth in crisis, utilizing trauma‑informed care principles and de‑escalation techniques.

Offer one‑on‑one mentorship to address emotional and behavioral challenges.

Facilitate and actively engage in workshops focusing on personal development, academic achievement, and professional skill‑building.

Supervise youth during activities, ensuring safety and adherence to program policies.

Maintain accurate daily documentation, records, and reports.

Collaborate with team members to provide integrated support to youth through sports and activities.

Provide transportation to and from therapeutic recreation programs in company vehicles.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM (typical schedule for BHTs)

Qualifications & Must Haves

Minimum state licensing requirements for Behavioral Health Technicians or Paraprofessionals.

At least 21 years of age.

High school diploma or GED.

Experience working with at‑risk youth, teens, or adults in behavioral health care.

Valid AZ driver’s license with no restrictions.

Ability to complete criminal history self‑disclosure affidavits and obtain an Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) unrestricted Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card (state and federal background checks required).

Must pass a drug test and comply with NHCC’s drug‑free workplace policy.

All positions at NHCC are safety‑sensitive. The company prohibits using, selling, manufacturing, distributing, or possessing alcohol, drugs, controlled substances, medical marijuana, or drug paraphernalia on any company premises, company‑owned vehicles, or personal vehicles used for company business.

Compensation & Benefits Salary:

$23.00 – $27.00 per hour based on education and experience in the behavioral health field.

Access to company vehicle fleet; staff do not transport clients in personal vehicles.
