Responsibilities
Collaborate and consult with Bayhealth physicians under practice guidelines and nurse-midwifery regulations.
Perform initial evaluation of all labor and delivery patients, monitor labor, recommend appropriate interventions and report complications.
Prepare patients and partners for delivery, teach breathing and relaxation techniques; provide breastfeeding instruction if requested.
Provide continuous support throughout labor, monitor fetal status, administer medications, and notify physicians of prolonged labor or complications.
Deliver infants and perform newborn assessments to ensure maternal and infant wellness.
Conduct postpartum visits to teach feeding and newborn care.
Lead classes for patients, families, and nursing students about pregnancy, delivery, and childcare.
Offer family planning counseling and gynaecological services.
Participate in performance improvement and continuing education activities, obtaining required CEUs.
Adapt to changing workplace demands and work collaboratively with peers and other providers.
Make referrals to other healthcare providers as needed.
Participate in labor and delivery coverage and other duties as assigned within job scope.
Required Education, Credentials, and Experience
Master’s Degree in Midwifery.
Graduate of an accredited midwifery program with a Nurse‑Midwife Certificate.
Certified Midwife Practitioner or equivalent board certification.
Required: Experience as a Midwife in a private or hospital setting.
Preferred Education, Credentials, and Experience
Basic Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certifications.
Preferred: One year of experience as a Midwife in a private or hospital setting.
