Health Information Specialist
for State Hospital North (SHN) in
Orofino . SHN is a licensed 60-bed psychiatric hospital providing involuntary inpatient treatment for adults in psychiatric crisis. SHN collaborates with patients, their families, and regional behavioral health centers to develop goals and objectives for the treatment episode while arranging follow-up care after discharge. Applicants who have completed a training program specific to state and federal requirements for patient records, such as Health Information Technology, are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities
Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information. Scanning, indexing, and exporting patient health records. Coordinate records activities with other departmental units. Authorize release of patient information. Ensure records system procedures comply with federal and state statutes and regulations. Compile patient census, statistical, and medical information for research and other special studies. Occasional interaction with patients may arise in this role. Minimum Qualifications
Good knowledge of state and federal requirements for the maintenance and retention of patient health records. Typically gained by at least six months of work experience in a medical records department or with responsibility for medical record maintenance in a clinic setting, or completion of an accredited training program in health information technology with at least 24 credit hours. Experience in roles such as CNA, psychiatric technician, or home health aide alone does not qualify. Good knowledge of privacy, confidentiality, security, rights of access and release of patient health records, via six months of work experience or completion of an accredited training program with at least 24 credit hours. Some knowledge of automated information systems, typically gained by at least three months of work experience or completion of a short course (about 20 hours). Some knowledge of filing systems, typically gained by at least six months of experience or relevant coursework including hands-on filing experience.
