This incumbent is responsible for sustaining an environment of goodwill for the practice while providing optimum services to patients and visitors. The role will float to all Hospital Operations business units to perform a variety of duties, including front desk office support, patient registration, patient discharge support, patient-related hospitality, and call center support for the assigned department/clinical team within Hospital Operations. Shifts and length of assignments may vary based on departmental needs. Minimum Qualifications High School / GED equivalent or related work experience Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and to interact with patients and the public with patience, courtesy, and professionalism, in person and on the telephone; ability to respond to individuals who may be angry or upset Ability to efficiently use computer system applications (e.g., email, spreadsheets, word processing, medical office management) including scheduling, template maintenance, and maintenance of demographic and insurance information Typing skills sufficient for timely and accurate input Writing skills with proper English grammar, spelling, and punctuation to compose clear, concise messages Bookkeeping skills to maintain patient financial records, prepare related financial reports, balance cash box, and prepare deposits Organizing skills to establish priorities, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain effectiveness in a high-volume, interruption-prone environment Knowledge of medical office procedures (e.g., medical terminology, appointments, medical records, insurance verification, cashiering, billing) Filing skills to maintain logs and files in an organized and retrievable manner; knowledge of laws and guidelines governing medical records, confidentiality, privacy, and HIPAA Knowledge of health care insurance systems (e.g., Medi-Cal, MediCare, HMO, PPO, fee-for-service, county-funded coverage, workers’ compensation) for obtaining authorizations, scheduling, referrals, coordinating services, and billing documentation Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding to identify services; ability to identify diagnoses, procedures, and supplies Preferred Qualifications Prior medical setting and/or hospital experience Experience with medical insurance verification in a medical environment At least two (2) years of customer service and/or call center experience Experience performing appointment scheduling and patient registration Key Responsibilities 50% - Coordination of Medical Office Services 50% - Additional Job Functions Position Information Salary: $27.31 - $33.88 hourly Salary Frequency: Hourly Salary Grade: 265 UC Job Title: MED OFC SVC CRD 2 UC Job Code: 009213 Number of Positions: 1 Appointment Type: Staff: Career Percentage of Time: 100% Shift: Monday–Friday, 06:45–15:15 Location: Main Hospital (HSP001) Union Representation: EX-Patient Care Technical Benefits Eligible: Yes This position is 100% on-site This is not an H-1B visa opportunity Benefits Range of medical, dental, and vision plans; UC contributes toward premiums Extensive leave benefits including pregnancy and parental leave, family & medical leave Paid holidays, paid time off/vacation/sick time Continuing Education allowance and education reimbursement Professional development opportunities and work-life resources On-site Employee Assistance Program with access to mental health services Supplemental insurance options and retirement plans Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) qualified employer and student loan repayment assistance for eligible roles Special Requirements This is a critical position; employment may require criminal background check(s), drug screening, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment Duties may include handling cash Designated as a mandated reporter under CANRA; compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and training is required Equal Opportunity UC Davis is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
