SUMMARY: This position functions as a member of the clinical team and completes assigned daily clinical operations to ensure smooth day-to-day operations in the SMG physician practice. The Medical Assistant I must maintain a professional, positive manner when talking with patients (and all customers) in-person, over the phone, or via email. Responsibilities
Work closely with providers to assist in delivering world-class care to patients.
Provide a high level of customer service to all patients of the practice.
Room patients and prepare them for provider visits; take vital signs and enter data into EMR (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, oximetry, weight, height, respiratory rate, etc.).
Record patient history, chief complaint, pharmacy information, and prescription lists into EMR.
Obtain required consents and complete forms for specific visit types.
Perform in-office testing and EKGs as needed and conduct controls for in-office tests.
Assist providers with in-office medical procedures and properly label specimens per policy.
Chaperone providers as required and administer vaccines/medications as ordered, adhering to policies.
Follow Transitional Care Management (TCM), Chronic Care Management (CCM), and Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) workflows if active in the practice.
Stock rooms, monitor expiration dates of supplies, and log medication/vaccine refrigerator temperatures.
Answer, triage, and route incoming calls; follow scheduling rules and direct visits in other SMG practices.
Review clinical pre-visit schedules to ensure the provider has necessary information; obtain results, consult notes, or hospital notes as needed.
Schedule patient appointments and relevant testing; perform outreach to select patient groups and coordinate specialty appointments and testing.
Inform the manager of clinical supply needs and assist with ordering; obtain prior authorizations and/or insurance referrals as needed.
Work assigned clinical buckets timely and independently with discretion to protect patient confidentiality.
Perform other duties as requested and adhere to SMG policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Strong customer service excellence and excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
Experience with EMR strongly preferred (Athena preferred but not required).
Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
High School Diploma or equivalent required; education from an approved medical assistant program or equivalent.
One to three years as a medical assistant preferred.
Pay Range $17.77-$29.31
