Clinical Assistant III - Primary Care ELMC SEARHC is a non‑profit health consortium serving Southeast Alaska. As a Clinical Assistant III, you will support primary care teams in delivering comprehensive patient care in a fast‑paced primary care environment.

Shift : Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities

Accurately collect and document patient data in the chart; ensure records are organized and up‑to‑date.

Maintain current medication and immunization records; administer vaccines as ordered.

Recognize signs or symptoms requiring prompt intervention and act accordingly; transport patients within the facility when needed.

Prepare patients for exams and minor procedures; set up equipment and supplies.

Assist with specimen collection, point‑of‑care testing, and specimen transport; perform and assist with radiology exams as trained.

Support the provider and clinic nurse with clinical tasks within licensed scope; provide basic life support if certified.

Identify patients overdue for immunizations or preventive care and coordinate appropriate appointments.

Participate in unit goal setting and staff meetings; collaborate with management on scheduling and workflow improvements.

Adhere to safety and risk‑management policies; report accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions immediately.

Education & Certifications

High school diploma or GED (required).

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent; EMT‑III with current AK certification; AK paramedic certification; nursing degree may substitute.

Clinical competency within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.

Experience

Preferred: Experience working in a healthcare setting.

Skills

Strong communication and customer‑service skills.

Computer literacy sufficient for EMR usage; ability to learn medical databases.

Operation of medical equipment (BP cuff, pulse oximeter, EKG, cardiac monitor, defibrillator).

Organizational and interpersonal competence.

Knowledge & Abilities

Clinic procedural knowledge for patient visits and treatments.

Understanding of vitals, age‑appropriate and life‑saving procedures.

Rapid recognition and response in emergency situations.

Proficiency with EMR systems and accurate documentation.

Physical Demands Regular standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and handling of hands. Occasional lifting or pushing/pulling up to 25 lbs; may lift patients as required.

Work Environment Moderate noise; office and clinical settings; exposure to controlled temperature environments; potential contact with blood or body fluids; possible splashes or spills.
