Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Technician under the Lee lab in the Department of Microbiology at NYU Langone Health. Our laboratory lies at the intersection of immunology, virology, biochemistry, and structural biology. The candidate will support lab operations and perform experiments under general and direct supervision. This position offers the opportunity to develop proficiency with advanced techniques in the structural and functional analysis of membrane protein complexes involved in immune recognition and viral infection. Responsibilities

Support general lab operations including supply ordering and inventory management. Prepare stocks of shared consumables. Configure, operate and maintain laboratory equipment. Assist in the maintenance and growth of bacterial, insect and mammalian cell cultures. Perform routine molecular biology and biochemistry techniques in molecular cloning, protein expression and purification. Assist lab members with assay development and data analysis as needed. Communicate effectively with all levels of the Medical Center; listen to others to respond appropriately, answer questions, and obtain needed information; maintain the confidentiality of all research information. Exercise judgment and decision-making by recognizing problems and applying appropriate policies and procedures; seek guidance as necessary and inform appropriate personnel of situations requiring intervention or follow-up. Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience. Advanced (beyond basic lab training) will be accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. Preferred Qualifications

Experience in microbiology, virology and molecular biology techniques such as cloning, sequencing, Western blotting, gel electrophoresis and viral vector production. Experience with mammalian or insect cell culture. Comfortable working safely in a BSL-1 and BSL-2 laboratory environment. Familiarity with protein purification, structural biology, fluorescence microscopy, genome editing, and/or flow cytometry is preferred. Strong organizational and communication skills. Commitment to stay for at least 2 years. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. About Benefits and Equal Opportunity

Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
