Overview Job Title: Paramedic. Reports to: Operations Supervisor/Operations Manager/Vice President of Operations. This position provides pre-hospital advanced, intermediate and basic life support care and transportation to the sick and injured in accordance with local, state, national and Acadian Ambulance standards of practice.
Job Summary Provide appropriate, efficient and timely pre-hospital advanced, intermediate and basic life support care and transportation of the sick and injured in accordance with local, state, national and Acadian Ambulance standards of practice.
Equipment Ambulance; stretcher; folding stretcher; scoop stretcher; long spine boards and KED; spinal immobilization equipment; radios and computerized communications equipment; splinting devices; suction devices; bandaging materials; oxygen bottles and tubings; basic and advanced airway management devices; glucometer; intravenous fluid therapy equipment; cardiac monitor / defibrillator; pulse oximeter; fire extinguisher; simple extrication devices; simple mechanics tools; blood pressure cuff and stethoscope; patient restraints; simple traction devices; other medical and related equipment items not listed may be added as new items are introduced.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct a careful examination of the patient for signs and symptoms of illness/injury and assist other medical personnel as necessary.
Administers prompt and efficient basic, intermediate and advanced life support care within licensure/certification and approved protocols prior to and during transport.
Provide careful handling of the patient to and from the ambulance.
Provide safe and efficient transport of the patient to the medical facility.
Provide a safe and efficient transfer of patient and patient care information to the receiving personnel at the destination.
Document all aspects of patient condition and treatment on EMS run reports; record non-medical information as required; complete other patient documentation and forms as required.
Conduct regular unit inventory and equipment testing to ensure equipment is present, clean and in proper working order.
Upon completion of transport, perform assigned duties to return the ambulance and equipment to service.
Maintain full knowledge of the ambulance’s equipment and its proper use at all times.
Document and report needed repairs to maintenance departments and supervisors as required.
In the absence of other qualified personnel, operate basic extrication tools and procedures to gain access to the patient if necessary.
Control the patient’s surroundings to minimize further danger and manage bystanders when needed.
Operate/drives the ambulance in a safe and efficient manner, following company driving guidelines.
Follow FCC regulations when communicating via electronic equipment.
Attend mandatory meetings and complete assigned station duties.
Order supplies to replenish station and ambulance inventories; perform station and vehicle cleaning as required.
Complete all required company reports and logs and share information with other personnel as needed.
As an approved Field Training Officer, train new employees as directed and precept EMT-Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic students as directed.
Meet and fulfill the qualifications, requirements, functions and responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician – Basic and Intermediate job descriptions.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands Physical activities and time spent performing them vary; typical requirements include lifting patients onto/stretchers, assisting patients and equipment, climbing stairs, and working in diverse environments. See detailed job-specific physical requirements as listed by the employer.
Work Environment Field-based environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials, vehicular accidents, outdoor emergency settings, and conditions requiring use of extrication tools. May involve work in extreme weather and high-stress situations.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
National and/or State certification as a Paramedic per state requirements.
Current CPR certification (American Heart Association).
Current ACLS certification (American Heart Association).
Current and valid state-issued driver’s license (Louisiana Class “D” or equivalent).
Ability to read, write and communicate professionally; able to prepare simple reports and present information to individuals or small groups.
Knowledge of company protocols, procedures and safety policies.
Ability to drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions.
Additional certifications such as NALS, PALS, PHTLS, PEEP, and Instructor certifications are preferred but not required.
Interpersonal Requirements
Maintain ethical and organizational norms; achieve task completion with ownership and urgency.
Maintain professionalism and respect with patients, co-workers, emergency service providers, healthcare workers and the public.
