How You Make a Difference As a Licensed Mental Health Professional working in a correctional facility, you will conduct intake evaluations, provide therapeutic interventions and suicide prevention techniques, develop treatment plans, and monitor the clinical needs of inmates. Your critical role ensures inmates receive appropriate mental health services while incarcerated.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct screening, assessments, and triage for inmates and provide appropriate recommendations.

Develop and recommend treatment plans, conduct essential treatment services such as psychoeducational and transitional groups, and provide suicide prevention interventions.

Respond to sick call requests, provide medication adherence, and coordinate with prescribing providers for medication evaluations.

Provide crisis intervention, oversee clinical needs of patients on caseload, and participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.

Provide staff training on relevant mental health topics, document all findings in the patient’s health record, and ensure compliance with facility and company policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements

Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or another related mental health discipline.

One (1) or more years of experience in a mental health treatment program, preferably in a correctional or hospital setting.

Unrestricted, current license in the state of practice – e.g. LCSW, LMFT, LPC, LMHC, psychologist. Must maintain all licensures and certifications, including continuing educational requirements.

Independent licensure required.
