Exercise Physiologist Job Responsibilities
Develops, implements, and coordinates exercise programs and monitors vital signs of patients to promote physical fitness.
Demonstrates correct use of exercise equipment and exercise routines.
Conducts individual and group aerobic, strength and flexibility exercises.
Teaches behavior modifications such as stress management, weight control, nutrition, medications and other related subjects.
Coordinates, schedules, and performs patient evaluations, walk tests, Zio Patches, and program intakes in the absence of scheduler/coordinator.
Identifies emergent situations and is able to perform in a calm and professional manner during the emergency situation.
Ensures inventory of materials and supplies; retrieves supplies when necessary.
Monitors the progress of individual patients in their performance of prescribed exercise regimes to include motivation and assessment of patient’s tolerance of exercise program.
Documents relevant information on patients in progress notes or daily exercise sessions in charts.
Researches and develops new programs for at risk populations.
Provides staff development and training in exercise testing technology and physiology.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification
Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Sports Medicine, or other related field required or completed within 2 years of hire
ACSM, CEP, or RCEP certification required within 6 months of hire
Minimum of one-year clinical experience in the field of exercise physiology; clinical experience in Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation strongly preferred
Work Environment and Physical Demands The work is performed indoors with typical hospital environment exposure. The employee may be exposed to dust, pollutants, fumes, communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and other substances common in health care. The noise level is usually moderate. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, pushing/pulling/reaching, occasional bending and lifting up to 50 pounds, and frequent handling of patients and equipment. Reasonable accommodations available to perform essential functions.
