Wetland Scientist/Field Biologist – Part-time (hourly) Base pay range

$67,020.00 – $113,934.00 per year.

Job Summary ICF’s Environment & Planning Division seeks an motivated On-Call Wetland Scientist/Field Biologist to join our Texas-based environmental consulting team. In this role, you will solve environmental regulatory challenges, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and contribute to wetland and biological fieldwork projects across Texas.

Key Responsibilities

Help clients solve toughest environmental regulatory challenges, delivering rigorous analysis.

Support interdisciplinary teams of wetland scientists, biologists, ecologists, and regulatory specialists.

Assist in wetland delineations, endangered species habitat assessments, and other support fieldwork activities.

Be a positive, fun, curious, organized, self‑motivated, supportive addition to the team.

Travel to project locations as required—variable travel across Texas and the region; driving typically required.

Provide technical input on projects involving Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, federal and state laws, and agency consultations.

Fieldwork Expectations Fieldwork is often performed on foot in rugged terrain, traversing uneven, irregular, slippery, and steep terrain, potentially up to 5 miles per day, with limited mobile phone reception. Long hours and adverse weather conditions are common. You may need to work independently for extended periods, including overnight or extended travel.

Basic Qualifications

BS in Biology, Natural Resource Sciences, Wetland Science, Wildlife, Ecology, Botany, Forest, Environmental Sciences, or similar; OR high school diploma with 2+ years of professional field biology or wetland delineation experience.

Valid driver’s license and successful Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.

Ability to work independently in the field for extended periods with limited reception.

Ability to traverse challenging terrain up to 5 miles per day.

Navigation skills using physical maps and handheld GPS units.

Preferred Qualifications & Attributes

Prior experience with water resources, biological, and ecological fieldwork in Texas.

Understanding of the Clean Water Act and experience delineating Waters of the U.S.

Certification as a Certified Wildlife Biologist (CWB) and/or Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS).

USFWS Section 10 recovery permit for protected species surveys.

Experience writing detailed technical reports (e.g., Water Resources and Habitat Assessments, Environmental Resources Assessments, Critical Issues Analysis).

About On‑Call Employment With ICF ICF hires environmental professionals on an On‑Call basis due to seasonal or project‑specific work. On‑Call employees are scheduled for hours when available and may accept or refuse assigned hours each week. You may work concurrent projects outside of ICF assignments, provided no conflict of interest.
