Position Overview Performs imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care with support of the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients at WVU Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
For West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland locations: Completion of an Accredited Radiography School, registration (or registry eligibility) by the ARRT in Radiography, and certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire. State criminal background check required.
For Pennsylvania locations: Completion of an Accredited Radiography School, registration (or registry eligibility) by the ARRT in Radiography, and certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire. State criminal background check required.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Rotate in all Diagnostic areas for skill development (e.g., Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, request, and protocols, under supervision.
Produce high-quality images using imaging equipment and systems.
Select appropriate exposure factors to optimize image quality while minimizing radiation exposure.
Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff using shielding, collimation, and other techniques.
Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology to optimize procedures and ensure safety.
Assess patient needs and provide support related to comfort, hygiene, and mobility.
Prepare contrast agents, pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays as per protocols.
Educate patients about radiographic procedures and answer questions.
Collaborate with the healthcare team to provide quality radiology services.
Engage in problem-solving, crisis management, and performance improvements.
Adhere to ethical standards, policies, and regulations.
Report equipment failures immediately.
Complete required in-services and competencies.
Position patients accurately per protocols.
Coordinate daily workflow.
Supervise and instruct radiology students in clinical settings.
Ensure completion of all components of the imaging process.
Physical Requirements
Differentiate shades of gray on monitors or photographs.
Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
Wear lead aprons weighing 8-15 pounds for extended periods.
Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
Carry items up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment
Exposure to minimal radiation, monitored by dosimeters.
Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
Operate imaging equipment with moving parts.
Skills and Abilities
Positive interaction with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Prioritize and handle multiple situations.
Improvise with positioning and equipment when routine methods are compromised.
Additional Information This position replaces John Barr's full-time role, transitioning to a casual position.
