Speech Language Pathologist (Healthcare)

Evaluate patients within twenty-four (24) hours, or 1 business day of physician referral. If unable to complete evaluation in 24 hours, documentation in medical record clearly defines cause for delay.

Develop an effective treatment plan and obtain approval for services from the referring physician. Treat patients according to the physician treatment plan.

Supervise Speech Language Pathologist Assistants in direct patient care and patient-related activities, following state practice act.

Communicate with supervisor and other health team members regarding patient progress, problems, and plans.

Participate in Patient Care Conferences, Utilization Review meetings, and Rehabilitation Conferences as needed.

Participate in in-service training programs for other staff in the facility.

Record evaluations, daily treatment notes, weekly progress notes, recertification documentation, as per Speech and Language Pathologist in the Board State Practice Act and governmental and third-party payer requirements.

Record treatment changes as per policy and procedures.

Instruct patients' families or nursing staff in maintenance programs and caregiver training in preparation for discharge from therapy services.

Participate in discharge planning.

Act as a clinical preceptor for affiliating CFY/RFP Speech Language Pathologist and student programs.

Comply with the Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Bureau State Practice Act and the facility's policies and procedures.

Maintain a positive, effective, and appropriate relationship with patients/residents, families, staff, and professional colleagues.

Supervisory Requirements Supervise CFY - Speech Clinical Fellows, if applicable, and assist nursing with training of Restorative Aides.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in Speech Language Pathology; preference for graduates of Master's or Doctorate programs.

Proficient in computer skills such as inputting data into programs like Casamba and Point Click Care.

Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures, policy and procedure manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, coworkers, and families.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems; interpret instructions in various formats.

Licenses and Certifications: Licensed as a Speech Therapist in the state; must meet continuing education requirements and maintain license in good standing.

Physical Demands Requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, exerting force, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling as specified.

Work Environment Characterized by low to moderate noise levels. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
