A Post‑doctoral Associate in Coastal Water Level Variability is available for a researcher to join a project led by Dr. Katy Serafin in the Department of Geography at the University of Florida. This research focuses on quantifying the spatial variability of seasonal‑to‑interannual variations in total water levels along the U.S. Gulf and East coasts using NOAA's Coastal Ocean ReAnalysis (CORA). The successful candidate will be a self‑directed individual who is excited about working on collaborative projects and will lead efforts to.
Responsibilities
Identify geographic patterns of dominant water level components over seasonal‑to‑interannual time scales.
Develop methods for quantifying uncertainties in total water level estimations, considering coastal morphology, reanalysis data, and empirical wave runup formulations.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting‑edge research with significant implications for flood risk assessment and coastal management.
The position will be initially awarded for one year, and, contingent upon strong performance and conduct and availability of funds, may be renewed for up to two years.
Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. in Geography, Geology, Oceanography, Coastal Engineering, Earth Science, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
Strong programming skills in Python (preferred), Matlab, or R.
Demonstrated ability to analyze large datasets.
Knowledge of coastal and nearshore processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in statistical modeling and time series analysis.
Experience with machine learning or deep learning applied to geospatial data.
Experience with Amazon Web Services or other cloud‑based computing platforms.
