Summary The focus of this position will be the layout, assembly, installation, and maintenance of pipe systems, pipe supports, and related equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, compressed air, and industrial production and processing systems. The role is not solely limited to this skill set.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Cut, thread and hammer pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders and benders.
Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering and threading joints.
Attach pipes to walls, structures and fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment.
Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
Additional skills in other crafts are necessary to meet customer needs and will be expected in this role.
Education And/Or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level is usually moderate.
Other Duties Employees may be assigned to work on millwright, pipefitting, welding, sheet metal, mechanical, and rigging projects.
