In this role, you will assist with on‑site installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of telecommunications products and equipment that TDS sells and leases. You will have direct, face‑to‑face contact with our customers and are expected to be proactive with the sales of TDS services and products. Services include telephony, video/CATV/DBS, internet, and high‑speed networks. You will provide extraordinary customer service, identify customer needs, educate the customer, and pursue sales opportunities.
Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, you will need to reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from Neillsville, WI. This position is eligible for a $2,500 sign‑on bonus (payout terms apply). You may be hired at either the Field Service Technician or Field Service Technician‑Network level depending on skills and qualifications. Apply for the level that best matches you.
Responsibilities
Assist with on‑site installation, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining telephone equipment, network equipment, customer premise equipment, video/CATV/DBS, fiber optic/copper facilities, and other TDS products and services for new and existing customers.
Identify the location of defective cable using various test equipment and repair buried, aerial, underground, or customer cable. Locates cable and fiber in response to customer requests or construction needs. Pole climbing and operating construction equipment is required.
Locate, identify, and mark company underground and buried facilities to prevent damage. Keep an orderly log of all locate requests in the exchange area. Perform cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
Provide troubleshooting support techniques and corrections; respond to “trouble” dispatches.
Maintain and enhance record systems (cross‑connects, line groups, network elements, etc.).
Deliver excellent customer service and proactively educate and sell TDS products and services.
Gain working knowledge of RUS standards and grounding practices associated with splicing and maintenance of outside‑plant facilities and equipment.
Qualifications Required
Valid driver’s license.
Follow TDS attendance guidelines.
On‑call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel; willing to work overtime.
Ability to maintain DOT requirements for vehicles with GVWR >10,000 lbs.
A+ certification and computer networking experience.
Other Qualifications
Successful completion of customer‑specific requirements (e.g., background check).
Successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
Understand telecommunication products and services (inside wiring, internet, bonding, grounding, data transmission, fiber optics, video installation, etc.).
Practical knowledge of computer applications (databases, plant record systems, MS Office).
Ability to work independently with little supervision.
Demonstrated customer service and sales skills, effective communication.
Proven organizational and multitasking skills.
Ability to operate vehicles with manual transmissions.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Regularly sit, stand, write, and operate a computer keyboard, office equipment, and telephone. Move, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May balance or climb. Frequently lift up to 50 lbs, occasionally up to 100 lbs. Required vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. May work outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms, and under extreme weather conditions.
