HVAC Chiller Technicians
install, modify, and repair refrigeration systems such as hermetic, semi-hermetic, screw, and scroll units up to 500 tons; air conditioning; VAV and ventilation; VRF systems; CRAC units; geothermal; reversible chillers; air and water-cooled chillers; process coolers; ice machines; evaporative cooling; air compressing; and related control systems, including pneumatic, DDC, and building control systems. This role involves advanced installation tasks, assembly, testing, calibration, and adjustment of temperature and environmental control systems, including complex dual equipment cooling installations, refrigerated warehouses, and dehumidification systems. Additionally, the technician installs new or repaired components and performs complex modifications in accordance with electrical standards, maintaining and repairing specialized equipment like DOAS, MAU, and Pool Pak systems. Repairs may include compressors, condensers, heat pumps, refrigerant lines, valves, meters, thermostats, pumps, electrical components, and controls, including pneumatic controls and variable speed drives. Salary: $42.19/hr plus $14.75 fringe benefits used towards insurance and 401k. Key Responsibilities Diagnose and repair refrigerant systems, including VRF, chillers, and CRAC units Cut, bend, and join tubing; solder joints; install refrigerant valves; test for leaks; verify system operation; replace defective electrical components; add or remove refrigerant; monitor pressures and adjust controls; insulate pipes; and service air conditioning units up to 500 tons Prepare work orders and estimate costs; train lower-level workers Essential Skills Proficiency in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial HVAC systems Ability to operate installation and repair equipment; manage projects; maintain records; handle hazardous materials Knowledge of safety standards, refrigerant handling, and environmental regulations Flexibility and safety-consciousness, including PPE use Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, 4+ years of advanced experience in commercial/industrial HVAC, EPA Universal Refrigeration License, valid driver’s license, ability to pass drug and background checks, and US citizenship.
