Inboard/Diesel Marine Technician (Sign-On Bonus)

Position Overview: TPG Marinas - Spicer's Marina is seeking an Inboard/Diesel Marine Technician with diesel experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for boats and a strong mechanical aptitude for inboard diesel engines. Certifications are a plus but not required. An applicant who demonstrates a strong work ethic and a desire to advance will have an opportunity to earn certifications through our organization. Spicer's Marina is located in Groton, CT.

Responsibilities
Inspect, maintain, and repair boats of all kinds. Strong skillset for trouble-shooting and repairing inboard diesel engines; engine-specific certifications are preferred. Perform routine maintenance and inspections on all types of marine engines, including outboards and inboards. Use a variety of hand and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance. Communicate with boat owners and other team members to ensure that repairs are completed correctly and in a timely manner. Utilize diagnostic equipment to test and repair boat engines (inboard-outboard) for service and warranty purposes. Troubleshoot, test, repair, replace, remove, and install systems and components. Conduct a thorough assessment prior to starting a job, including acknowledging the budgeted time vs actual time. Maintain accurate records of work performed, including parts used, time spent, and any additional repairs needed. Source/research parts needed for tasks as required. Maintain knowledge of marine systems including electrical, plumbing and water systems. Troubleshoot, repair, and install vessel systems and components including electrical, electronics, plumbing and water systems (fresh, salt, and waste); gas and diesel engines are a plus. Assign parts and purchases to the appropriate vessels/work orders. Promote company products/services to meet customer needs. Provide the service department with repair orders for filing and recording in a timely manner. Must possess own tools. Follow TPG Safety and Environmental rules and be willing to take training. Wear proper personal protective equipment as required for the task or work area. Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately. Perform any other duties as assigned by TPG Marinas and the direct Manager. Key Competencies

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Technical school training preferred. 5 years experience preferred. ABYC and/or manufacturer certifications preferred. Outboard experience is a plus but not a requirement. Must carry own tools. Maintain training credentials. Must have a valid driver’s license. Basic boat handling skills preferred. Experience with both gas and diesel engines preferred. Ability to work on-site at Conanicut Marina, Dutch Harbor Boatyard and Taylor Point Boatyard, as well as on-road service to TPG managed locations when requested. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and kneel, stoop, bend and twist in tight areas. Comfort with ladders and confined spaces is required. Ability to work in the elements regularly. Repetitive hand motions are common. All candidates must be ready and able to work a fully flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends and holidays to meet fluctuating business demands.
