Cal Poly Humboldt invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty position with an emphasis in Mechanical Engineering. Preference will be given to candidates whose teaching and research focus is on Mechatronics, Robotics and Automation, or Machine Design. The position will be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor, although exceptionally strong candidates at higher ranks will be considered. We value scholars who will support our growing student body and bridge multiple areas of Engineering through their research, teaching, and service contributions. DEPARTMENT
The School of Engineering is part of the College of Natural Resources and Sciences. Programs include: Energy Systems Engineering (B.S.), Environmental Resources Engineering (B.S.), and Mechanical Engineering (B.S.). At the graduate level, we offer a one-year practice-based M.S. in Engineering and Community Practice, and two research-based M.S. options in Environmental Resources Engineering and Energy, Technology, and Policy. The curriculum emphasizes systems thinking, computational methods, data analysis, hands-on labs, and applied design to support learning. The School prioritizes diversity, inclusion, and equity with current demographics provided in the original posting. RESPONSIBILITIES
Commitment to teaching excellence and building a strong research record. Teach fundamental (lower division), upper-division, or graduate-level Mechanical Engineering courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise. Advising students, participating in campus and system-wide communities, maintaining office hours, and collaborating with colleagues. Contribute to research, scholarship, and service activities; engage in mentoring and developing a student-centered learning environment. Support research activity during the probationary period with a reduced teaching load for the first two years to establish scholarly activities required for retention and tenure. RANK, SALARY AND BENEFITS
We seek to fill this position at the Assistant Professor rank; salary and rank depend on qualifications and experience. The salary range for the classification is $74,652 - $158,688 per year; anticipated starting salary typically $85,000 - $90,000. Benefits information is available at the CSU benefits site. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An earned Ph.D. or equivalent in Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution; if ABD, degree requirements must be completed by appointment date. Record of training or experience in Mechanical Engineering. Excellence in university-level teaching with a student-centered learning environment. Evidence of effective teaching using diverse methodologies and potential for publishing research in peer-reviewed journals. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student and research populations and address issues of diversity in higher education. Potential for involving students in research and scholarly activity. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience collaborating with clients, stakeholders, and communities to develop engineering projects or analyses in private/public sectors. Professional engineer licensure. APPLICATION AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
