Tooling Technician
Techniplas is a global supplier of sophisticated plastic components and design‑focused, multifunctional surfaces for the automotive sector and other markets. The Tooling Technician performs preventative maintenance and repair work on metal molds for injection of plastic products, analyzing specifications and applying knowledge of mold design and construction. Essential Functions
Plans sequence of operations, visualizing shape of mold in reverse of product. Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock to lay out for machining. Grinds, files, and sands parts, using files, emery cloth, and powered grinders, to fit parts for assembly and to smooth and finish cavity. Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools. Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v‑blocks, or angle plates. Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly. Verify dimensions, using calipers, planer gages, and dial indicators. Build and/or repair injection molds in accordance with mold designs and accepted procedures. Perform final assembly of the mold. Assemble molds in accordance with tool designs, accepted procedures, and ISO procedures. Perform quality checks as required by our standards and procedures. Make changes as necessary to the tool. Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and modifications on injection molds. Able to understand 2D & 3D drawings and documentation. Proficient in all areas of mold building. Train and mentor lower level apprentices and general labor associates. Result oriented and able to work without direct supervision. Monitor and maintain proper inventory levels for machine shop tools and supplies. Follow and improve shop processes. Maintains adherence to company policies, safety/ergonomic standards, and good housekeeping practices. Effective communication and conflict resolution skills. Comply with all Environmental Requirements and Policies. Report all Environmental incidents to immediate supervisor. Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s). Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED Required. Journeymen Mold Maker Certificate, Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two‑year college or technical school; or five to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum five years machinist and tool making experience required. Expected to have knowledge and understand the function of all mold components and tolerances that are needed to produce a quality mold. Skilled in the use of associated equipment such as standard, surface grinders, drill presses, lathes, etc. Capable of trouble shooting and resolving tooling issues.
