Bighorn Airways is seeking individuals who want to work and live in the beautiful town of Sheridan, Wyoming. Sheridan is at the base of the Bighorn Mountains and offers the advantages of small-town living and great outdoor opportunities. Sheridan provides a high quality of life, nationally ranked schools, and no state income tax. There are countless options for those who enjoy outdoor recreation. Sheridan also has a number of cultural options, including stage productions, concerts, festivals, museums, and even polo. One week each July the town is taken over by the WYO rodeo, with a variety of activities, parades and nightly rodeo performances. There are also numerous sports and activities for both children and adults, including soccer and ice hockey leagues, and summer programs for kids. Close‑by communities where some of Bighorn employees live include Dayton, Ranchester, Parkman, Big Horn, Story, and Buffalo. The larger cities of Billings and Casper are each 2 hours away.

Bighorn Airways has been a leader in the Wyoming aviation community for over 70 years and has been conducting smokejumper and para cargo operations for over 30 years. Bighorn Airways is a diverse aviation company, operating aircraft on USG special operations contracts in Alaska and the Lower 48, as well as overseas.

We are looking for skilled A&P aircraft mechanics. Bighorn Airways operates a busy Part 145 MRO, specializing in DHC‑8, CASA 212 and Dornier 228 maintenance, and special mission modifications and avionics. Candidates should be mission‑focused and put forth the effort and expertise to provide the highest levels of safety, quality, and reliability. Experience with Honeywell TPE 331 series engines, P&W 120/121 engines, and Collins or Garmin avionics, a plus.

Duties / Responsibilities

Perform airframe, power plant and propeller repairs and modifications on company and customer aircraft.

Perform required aircraft inspections as directed by the Part 145 Manager or other supervisory personnel.

Ensure proper segregation and serviceability identification of parts is maintained.

Testing and troubleshooting of aircraft systems.

Operates tools and equipment necessary to accomplish assigned tasks, including company vehicles, forklifts, and tugs, etc.

Work effectively under time constraints and pressure while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Must adhere to proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) without prompting.

Travel and perform aircraft repairs in the field, as required.

Work nights and weekends when necessary to support AOG and required inspections.

Achieve learning objectives as presented through OJT and formal classes.

Interprets technical manuals, drawings and blueprints.

Completes all required maintenance records accurately and completely in real‑time.

Adhere to the established maintenance policies and procedures outlined in company manuals and the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR’s).

Maintains a clean and safe work area and a “clean as you go” philosophy.

Practice tool and FOD control continually while executing duties.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills / Abilities

Thorough understanding of best‑practice requirements for aircraft maintenance and tool usage.

Thorough understanding of tools and testing methods used to ensure proper functioning of an aircraft and its parts, systems, and mechanics.

Ability to read, comprehend, and adhere to manual instructions to resolve complex mechanical issues.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software used to complete and maintain records.

Detail‑oriented with mechanical inclination.

Ability to perform consistently under demanding conditions.

Ability to perform basic inspections and repairs with minimal supervision.

Ability to quickly learn new techniques, processes, and systems.

Maintain background check requirements during employment, so as to have no offense on record that would preclude access to required bases or airports. (DOD/SIDA).

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required.

FAA A&P (at least one) license.
