Summary This position is located in the Electrical/Mechanical/Garage Section of Facilities Management Service (FMS) at the VA SORCC - White City - Oregon. The SORCC has 145 acres and over 800,000 square feet to maintain. Recruitment/Relocation Incentives may be authorized for highly qualified candidates.
Qualifications Applicants must meet all requirements. Evidence of training or experience must be detailed in a resume. Applicants will be evaluated against the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
Ability to perform the duties of an Electrician without more than normal supervision.
Specialized experience: working independently, installing/modifying/repairing electrical lines, circuits, and systems; using tools and testing equipment; reading wiring diagrams and blueprints.
Journeyman Electrical License or equivalent (3 years apprenticeship).
Duties
Maintain operation, complete repairs, review designs, install, and test electrical systems.
Determine nature and extent of repairs, review plans for renovation and new construction.
Complete layout work and determine work sequence.
Use measuring instruments (voltmeters, ammeters, watt meters, ohmmeters, meggers) for load calculations.
Troubleshoot, repair, and install electric motors, valves, actuators, and other equipment.
Maintain and test emergency power generators and backup systems.
Install and maintain secondary distribution systems up to 600 V for lighting and equipment.
Inspect primary distribution systems and high‑voltage transformers.
Perform inspections, testing, and troubleshooting on fire alarms and ancillary equipment.
Conduct electrical safety tests on powered equipment throughout the facility.
Physical Requirements
Manual dexterity, good physical condition and stamina.
Ability to lift or move objects up to 25 lbs.
Work requiring climbing ladders, crawling, walking, bending, stooping, and working from ladders or cherry pickers up to 40 ft above ground.
