Essential Functions
Planning and Coordination: Participate in planning and coordination of commissioning activities related to fire protection and life safety systems, working closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
System Verification and Testing: Verify that fire protection and life safety systems are installed correctly and perform functional testing to ensure they operate as intended. Test fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, fire pumps, smoke control systems, emergency lighting, exit signage, and other fire and life safety equipment.
Code Compliance: Ensure that all systems comply with applicable building codes, fire codes, NFPA standards, and other regulatory requirements. Stay up to date with changes in regulations and standards.
Documentation: Document all aspects of the commissioning process, including test procedures, test results, equipment specifications, and any modifications or adjustments made during commissioning.
Integration Testing: Perform integration testing to ensure that fire protection and life safety systems function correctly together as a cohesive unit, including testing communication interfaces, interlocks, and integration with building automation systems.
Training: Provide training to building owners, operators, and occupants on the proper use and maintenance of fire protection and life safety systems.
Deficiency Resolution: Identify and address any deficiencies discovered during testing, working closely with contractors, engineers, and building owners to resolve problems and ensure systems meet performance requirements.
Emergency Response Planning: Assist in developing emergency response plans and procedures, including evacuation plans, fire drills, and emergency communication protocols.
Occupancy Permit Compliance: Work to ensure that fire protection and life safety systems are fully commissioned and operational before a building is granted occupancy permits.
Other Essential Functions
Travel required to different sites (75% of travel required).
Perform a daily report on site.
Be professional in all aspects.
Communicate professionally to the GC, EC, and Owner.
Oversee meetings, schedules, and testing.
Lead the FLS job and perform a daily meeting with Owner, GC, EC and others.
FLS team lead on site.
Responsible for expense reports and following company policies.
Oversee the QA/QC and commissioning of their area of work.
Able to create the Final Building Report in conjunction with ECx, MCx and FLS.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Working Environment / Physical Demands
Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location and time of year.
Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities.
Work in restricted areas.
Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses always), respirator when required.
Able to work 8‑10 hours per day, 40‑50 hours per week.
