The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for a Wildlife Biologist 4 (Management Coordinator) located in Douglas, Alaska. What you will be doing

Under the general direction of a Fish and Game Coordinator, this position is responsible for overseeing and supervising the wildlife management program in Southeast Alaska (Region I), which includes surveys, inventory and harvest management for big game and furbearer populations. Responsibilities

Leading the management program, supervising 8 management staff members, and overseeing 4 area offices. Coordinating and participating in the Board of Game and Federal Subsistence Board regulatory processes for the region, ensuring scientific quality and integrity of management programs and publications. Managing program budgets and ensuring compliance with the Pittman-Robertson Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration program requirements. Collaborating directly with other agencies, advisory groups, and the public to address concerns and opportunities related to wildlife management.

Additional collaboration with internal and external stakeholders as part of regional leadership responsibilities. Organization, Mission, and Culture

The Management Coordinator, along with the Regional Supervisor and Research Coordinator, serve as the regional leadership team and together supervise over 30 professionals and staff, shaping staffing and budget priorities for wildlife management and conservation in Southeast Alaska. The position offers opportunities to work with biologists, wildlife technicians, program technicians, and a project assistant. The team emphasizes quality data, technical analyses, collaboration, communication, flexibility, and creativity. Local outdoor opportunities include trail running, hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and skiing; indoor options include gyms, fitness facilities, and cultural events with symphony performances, theater shows, and a diverse arts community. Working conditions

The position is based in the Douglas Island Building, approximately 3 miles from downtown Juneau. This regional office houses office and laboratory space for Region I’s management, research, and administrative staff and is shared with other departments in an open office layout. The incumbent will travel to Anchorage, Fairbanks, Sitka, Petersburg, Wrangell, and Ketchikan, and may conduct fieldwork throughout Southeast Alaska. Requires routine travel to attend board meetings, workshops, area office and field site visits. Qualifications and Experience

Who we are looking for:

We are seeking an energetic and committed professional who has: Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and mentor mid-career professional biologists. Demonstrated ability to design, plan, budget, and implement complex research programs which collect biological information to promote sound and practical wildlife management. Broad knowledge of wildlife biology, including population dynamics, distribution, habitat requirements, life histories, reproduction, behavior, and conservation. Strong organizational and administrative skills with experience in Pittman-Robertson federal aid program requirements. Ability to clearly present biological data and analytical results, both orally and in writing, to diverse audiences including scientific peers, the general public, and the Alaska Board of Game. Education and experience requirements A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in biology or related fields, and one year of advanced professional level biologist experience. The required experience can be met by service as a state Fishery Biologist 3, Wildlife Biologist 3, Habitat Biologist 3, or Fisheries Geneticist 2, or equivalent with another employer. Substitution A bachelor’s degree with specified biology/related coursework may substitute for the degree in a specified field as detailed in the original description. Upper division coursework and other science/math prerequisites are defined in the job description. Some positions may require training in specialized areas such as hydroacoustics, microscopic analysis, underwater research, or fish habitat restoration or enhancement. A valid driver\'s license is required. This position may involve possession of firearms/ammunition. Certifications may include Wildlife Chemical Immobilization, Wildlife Capture and Handling, and CPR/First Aid as described in the original job description. Required Documents
